Tochuken Inc. has a factory near the port of Numazu City and sells its ekiben on the Shinkansen platforms at Numazu and Mishima stations. For more than 130 years, Tochuken Inc. has been selling ekiben mainly in the eastern area of Shizuoka Prefecture, with the aim of providing freshly made and tasty boxed lunches.

Founded in 1894, Tochu-ken is a bento store with a history of over 130 years. The history of Tochu-ken began when the founder, Michizo Uno, started a teahouse in Togo, Numazu City. The store would have been like a coffee shop today. With the opening of the entire Tokaido Line and the right to sell bentos in the station, he started selling his first ekiben at Numazu Station. The fact that Togo was a place known for producing peaches was the origin of the store's name, “Tochu-ken”.
(Ekiben=Bento you can by at the train stations.)

At that time, trains stopped at Numazu Station for long periods of time as locomotives were being coupled and disconnected. Therefore, many passengers ate and shopped at Numazu Station, and sales of ekiben were brisk. In order to be able to deliver bentos as soon as the trains arrived, when the company was founded, it operated its factory and store in a location facing the Numazu Station roundabout. Later, we gradually expanded our sales channels to Mishima Station and Gotemba Station.

Currently, we sell bentos made at our central kitchen located near the port of Numazu City on the Shinkansen platforms at JR Numazu and Mishima Stations. Due to the nature of bentos, they must be consumed on the same day. Because of the expiration date issue, the area where we can deliver freshly made bentos is limited to within 5 to 60 km of the factory. For this reason, for more than 130 years since its establishment, the company has sold bentos mainly in the eastern area of Shizuoka Prefecture.
